Persons in the US who were born in the late 1940's and early 1950'sare baby boomers.
It is my understanding that the "baby boom" resulted from the return of millions of young American men (and women) from World War II.. Having been away from the US for as man…y as 4-5 years, the returning GIs immediately sought out their girl friends (or wives), married them (novel idea, no?) and proceed to produce babies in record numbers. The US economy was booming after the war, and there was a huge spike in the number of babies born in this country.. These babies - born starting in 1946 and lasting thru 1964 - are known as the "baby boom", hence "baby boomers".
Baby boomers were born between 1946 and 1964. 1965 and beyond are generation X.
First of all, I take it that you mean what technology did they had when they were kids. Otherwise they would have the same technology as everybody else today. If people toda…y were transported back to the 50s they would be shocked. They had some of the same things that we have today in name only. If you had a telephone (and not everyone did) it could have been a party line. Several people were on the same line. You had your ring such as two shorts ect. then you knew when to answer when it rang. The phone didn't have a dial on it. To make a call you told the operator the number that you were calling. They had television altho not every one did. You could tell who had a television by the antenna on top of the house. The televisions were all black and white and most people could only get one channel. Even then it was not on 24 hours a day. If you turned it on to early in the morning you would get either nothing or you would get the test pattern. One more thing about television. There were giants on that little black and white screen. You could see people like George Burns, Red Skelton, Jack Benny, Jimmy Durante , and Milton Burl. They had radio and record players for music . Record players used vinyl discs which were singles or long players (lp) - large records with 10 or more songs on them.
Somebody that was born generally between 1946 and 1964. Notice that baby boomers began to be born in 1946... right after World War II. The meaning of the term baby boomer is… that during this time period, there was a very high birthrate... a BOOM of Birthing! In economics, when there is a lot of growth, companies doign well, everyone is employed, etc, it is an economic BOOM and in the case of births, there was a baby BOOM.
baby boomer is when a lot of babies are produced/born
Members of the generation known as the "baby boomers" were born in the late 1940s and early 1950s, in the years immediately following the end of World War II. Soldiers came ho…me, married the women they had been apart from during the war, and settled down to start a family almost immediately, accounting for the major rise in births during those years.
