What are blood fractions?
In referring to blood, the four major components that make up whole blood are RBC's, WBC's, Plasma and Platelets. Fractions are included in each of the 4 components. Examples include: Immune Globulins, Albumin, Clotting Factors etc.

Fraction of what? about 70% of a 70 kg adult is water --- or about 50 liters blood volume is about 5 liters (or 10%) but remember, about half the blood is cells (most…ly red), so the plasma is about 2 and 1/2 liters
Platelets are the cellular fraction in blood helps to clot theblood. This process is also known as coagulation.
Fractionation of whole blood is a process where the blood is separated into its different components. These form three layers - blood plasma, a buffy coat which is a mixture o…f white blood cells and platelets, and red blood cells (erythrocytes).
Hi I am one of Jehovah's Witnesses and would like to try to answer your question for you. We follow the scripture at Acts 15:29 that states "keep abstaining from blood" and th…erefore do not accept blood transfusions. However there are many other things doctors can do without giving you a blood transfusion to save your life. Today, most transfusions are not of whole blood but of one of its primary components :(1) red blood cells; (2) white cells; (3) platelets; (4) plasma (serum), the fluid part. Depending on the condition of the patient, physicians might prescribe red cells, white cells, platelets, or plasma. Jehovah's witnesses hold that accepting whole blood or any of those four primary components violates God's law. There are many non-witnesses doctors today that see the health benefits of surgery without using blood. In fact many complicated surgeries such as heart and liver transplants can now be done without blood transfusions. I live in southern California and there are several hospitals around here that are bloodless hospitals, meaning they operate without giving blood transfusions. Some alternatives to blood transfusions that are available are volume expanders such as dextran, saline solution, Ringer's lactate solution, and hetastarch. These are used to build up or conserve your own blood, to aviod or minimize blood loss, to replace circulatory volume, or to stop bleeding. There are fractions derived from components of blood that some might choose to accept. Also there are procedures such as cell salvage that re-routes your blood during surgery so you do not lose any blood but acts as an extention of your body. So it is as if the blood never left your body. We value life very much and know that there are many things that can be done to save a life or perform a surgery without the use of blood. Therefore it is up to each own person to decide on their medical care and what blood transfusion alternatives they are willing to accept. ANSWER FROM ONE OF JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES... As we know and can see from the Book of ACTS 15:28-29 we are to abstain from Blood. Now to abstain means to stop doing, not to do some thing at all. With this in mind I follow this law to the letter, I do not accept whole Blood, any of the fraction parts that you can get from it, any medication that is derived from or contains any Blood or Blood product. The use of fractions is a personal one that only the individual can decide to use or not.
Why can Jehovah witnesses accept secondary blood fractions because they can pass the barrier of the fetus while primary fractions as white blood cells also pass and are forbidden?
Blood is the combination of all the ingredients together. These smaller ingredients are not blood. Many of these are found in the food we eat every day. Many are found in vacc…inations that our children have to get to attend school. These fractions are up to the individual to become informed and decide for themselves what they will do.
If secondary fractions are allowed because they are no blood why are primary fractions prohibited because they are also no blood white blood cells are part of the mother's milk?
This is a natural thing that God has provided for mothers. It is unthinkable that He would give us this gift and then condemn us for using it. Not all traces of blood were rem…oved from animals that were eaten. If an animal was slaughtered and the blood was poured out on the ground to honor God, then it was safe to eat (Deut. 12:16). It was reiterated in Acts 15:28, 29 when the early Christian congregation was reminded not to eat blood nor things "strangled" indicating that they should not eat the flesh of an animal if it had not been properly bled.
you have the four major components of blood. red blood cells, white blood cells, platets and plasma. not too sure on the last one. anyways, the each component can be broken do…wn even further and you will get fractions of them. so basically whatever the component is made up of, is the fraction of the component.
If blood must be poured on the ground where are the blood fractions the Jehovah witnesses use derived from?
It seems unlikely a witness would donate their blood if it may be used for a transfusion (and therefore break God's law). So I assume blood fractions would have to come form b…lood donated from non-witnesses.. Your question would be an interesting one for a Witness to consider when making their decision on whether they would accept blood fractions or not in their medical treatment.
In Jehovah's Witnesses
If abstaining from blood does not allow taking a major fraction why does Jehovah witnesses allow a fraction of a fraction?
Since the Bible commands us to "abstain from blood" accepting blood fractions is left up to the conscience of the individual witness. Some are OK with fractions, considering t…hem no longer blood. Others refuse them also. ANSWER FROM ONE OF JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES... As we know and can see from the Book of ACTS 15:28-29 we are to abstain from Blood. In Blood Donation
If it is wrong for a Jehovah witness to donate blood where does the blood fractions they use come from?

In Cold and Flu
No. See the related questions below for a link to the question and answer about the ingredients of the Swine Flu vaccine.
Treating patients with fractionated blood is the most efficient way to use the blood supply.
In Cold and Flu
There is not a universal influenza vaccine approved or marketed in the US yet, but scientists are working on one and getting close. It is highly unlikely that there will be hu…man blood products or traces of them in a universal vaccine, just like there are none in the current flu vaccines. Currently there can be traces of egg/chicken protein that may have come from chicken blood components in flu vaccines, since the flu virus is cultivated in chicken eggs before ready for inclusion in the vaccines. The amount is negligible, and even some people with allergy to eggs can go ahead and get the vaccine due to the tiny traces it contains (with some precautions. See the related question below for more on that.)
