What are the advantages and disadvantages of wind power?
Wind energy is free and with modern technology can be captured very efficiently. Many people find wind farms an interesting feature on the landscape. Wind turbines after being manufactured produce no greenhouse gases. A disadvantage is that wind is not consistent from zero to gale force. Others see the farm of turbines as an eye sore and that the country should be left untouched. Wind turbines can also be noisy.
- cheaper than nuclear
- no pollution
- beautiful (most are elegantly designed)
- sustainable energy source
- the advantages of wind turbines are that they produce electricity.
- can kill birds and flying mammals
- noise pollution
- sight pollution (unsightly)
- take up a lot of space
- unreliable (only work when there's wind)
- no jobs provided
- They can be a navigation issue for some low flying planes.

Advantages of wind power: . Wind power is very low cost (after the initial production and installation) . Wind power is clean (no pollution or carbon dioxide after the ini…tial setup, apart from the comparatively minor emissions produced to manufacture, transport, erect and maintain them) . Wind is a renewable and sustainable resource. We can use as much as we can today and there will still be more tomorrow. . Wind power will become cheaper than fossil fuel in the next few years (when the price of carbon is added to coal and oil), and in many places already is. . Wind turbines are self sufficient, just place them and watch 'em spin! (low maintenance, few moving parts, easy to repair) . Many people view wind turbines as aesthetically beautiful additions to the landscape. . Wind prices won't inflate like today's gas prices. . The land beneath can still be used for farming or any other purpose it was used for prior to a wind turbine being erected. . (For the US) At the moment we get our fuel (fossil fuels, mainly oil) from other countries. What would happen if one day they decided to cut off our power? Wind energy reduces US dependence on unstable, oil-producing countries. The benefits of wind power are that it is clean, produces no emissions, and is a renewable energy source. The greatest benefit of wind power is that the energy (i.e. the "fuel") component of the delivered power is FREE. Wind energy is provided ultimately by the sun and the rotation of the earth. The sun's radiation creates pressure differences in the atmosphere, and the rotation of the earth creates Coriolis forces. Together, these produce winds. Because wind energy comes from the sun and the earth's rotation, it is "FREE" in another aspect: it is completely non-polluting. Wind power, delivered to where people need it, is not free of all cost however. This is because we must build expensive windmills to turn the wind energy into electricity, and transmission lines to get the power where we need it. Also, the environment in the immediate vicinity of windmills will suffer in various ways, and with the suffering is associated an additional cost. Arguably, however, the environmental costs are usually much greater for other modes of power production, such as coal fired thermal power stations. Wind power does not require the burning of fossil fuels (beyond initial manufacturing and installation) to create electricity.
The advantages to solar power are an inexhaustible supply of thesunlight. The disadvantages include the cost and efficiency ofsolar cells. Nuclear power produces tremendous en…ergy with littleamounts of fuel. The downsides are storing radioactive wastes andrisk of proliferating fissile materials. Wind power can producesignificant energy, but it can harm landscape aesthetics inaddition to endangering land and marine life. Hydroelectricgeneration produces the most efficient energy and minimalmechanical losses. However, the construction of dams altershydrology, flood patterns, and can destroy ecosystems.
It is renewable, so we will always have wind power. . It has no harmful carbon dioxide pollution causing global warming, unlike fossil fuels (coal, oil and natural gas). . I…t is free, after installation, so it will gradually reduce the cost of electricity.
Wind is free, renewable energy that can be turned into electricity. . Wind has no polluting carbon dioxide emissions, so it has no effect on global warming.
The disadvantage of using wind powered turbines is that they might kill birds in some places. If it is a matter of a single turbine, then the wind might not always blow in the… specific direction needed to power the turbine. Keep in mind that there are always days that are not windy, although a sufficient battery should solve that problem. Answer They are one of the most expensive methods of energy generation in terms of cost per kilowatt hour, and only affordable because of enormous government subsidies which, of course, are then passed on to consumers throught their energy bills. They only produce a fraction of their rated capacity. They are completely dependent on wind and, so, do not necessarily produce energy when it is most required.
Advantages: The wind can be used to . wind assists with the erosion of rocks, which then replenishes worn out soil or forms deltas at rivers . wind carries soil particl…es to new areas to replenish the soil . wind moves water in streams, lakes, oceans . power yachts, sailboats and sailing ships. . drive windmills for pumping water, grinding corn, powdering rocks etc. . generate clean, green, pollution-free electricity . dry clothes . cool people on hot days . power land yachts . fly kites . fly gliders Disadvantages: The wind can do a lot of damage. For example, it can . can cause too much erosion . blow down trees . rip roofs off buildings, . destroy crops . drive ships onto rocks . knock down walls See the question: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_are_the_advantages_and_disadvantages_of_wind_power
Advantages common to both: . No fuel cost. . Low pollution and environmental impact. . Can be installed in smaller capacities than traditional power plants. Advantag…es of wind power: moderate to high net energy yield, high efficiency, moderate capital cost, low electricity cost, very low environmental impact, no CO 2 emissions, quick construction, easily expanded, can be located at sea, land below/around turbines can be used for other purposes Advantages of solar power: Solar Cells: fairly high net energy yield, work on cloudy days, quick installation, easily expanded or moved, no CO 2 emissions, low environmental impact, last 20-40 years, low land use, reduces dependence on fossil fuels .

It is free, after installation. . It is renewable, coming back day in, day out, for ever. . It is carbon neutral, that is, it doesn't contribute to global warming by emittin…g carbon dioxide. . It can be used to generate electricity, thus replacing dangerous fossil fuels (coal, oil and natural gas). . The turbines are awesome and majestic, and serve as reminders to everyone that we can and should be cleaning up our world.
Advantage: It will go further from parent plant and avoid overcrowding . Disadvantages: It will reduce the chance of survival for the seed as if it floats to a place without …soil, it cannot germinate.
It is free, clean, green and renewable. This means it can replace fossil fuels (coal, oil and natural gas) as a source of energy for the future, reducing the threat of global …warming and dangerous climate change.
Disadvantages of wind power: . The strength of the wind is not constant and it varies fromzero to storm force. This means that wind turbines do not producethe same amount of… electricity all the time. Luckily, wind energyisn't produced in isolation. It's added to widely connected energygrids with 24 hour spot energy markets. It's added to grids thatspan thousands of kilometres and have many types of generation anddemand. Up to about 20% of a grid's generation capacity, itrequires very little backup. . Some people see large wind turbines as unsightly structures andnot pleasant or interesting to look at. They believe that windturbines degrade the landscape. . Wind turbines generate noise. A subset of people who live nearwind turbines find this noise annoying. A subset of those peopleget stressed by it. Wind turbine noise does not make peoplesick. . Birds are killed by wind turbines. Studies show that windturbines do not threaten the vast majority of bird speciespopulations. Killing birds, in other words, does not threaten birdsgenerally. That said, wind turbines should not be sited on raptormigration routes, as the Altamont wind turbine farm was. The bestevidence is that song birds migrate at 2000-4000 feet, far abovewind turbines and sea birds avoid them according to radar andthermal studies of North Sea wind farms. . Bats are also killed by wind turbines, due to barotraumicstress (the reduced air pressure behind a wind turbine blade isdamaging to bat's lungs and heart). However, bats are not killed insignificant numbers compared to their populations by wind turbines.Bats are, however, killed in significant numbers in North Americaby white nose syndrome (300,000 in one cave alone.)
1) the weather is unpredictable 2) spoil aesthetic look 3) cost of building wind farms is expensive

Winds are the primary factors for all climate change including rain.It regulate temperature. It can be productively used in making wind energy as in wind mills and wind power. … Extreme wind can make disasters on earth. Some of the winds like dust winds, dry winds are also dangerous to humans.
Windmills have been known to kill birds and bats. Depending onciting, windmills may obstruct views of mountains or other scenicwonders. Electricity generated by wind mills is …dependent upon asteady supply of wind. Sometimes the winds do not blow, and once inawhile they blow too hard. Tornadoes and hurricanes can damage windturbines.
In Solar Power
What are the advantages and disadvantages of using these resources geothermal and Biomass and Hydro power and solar and wind?
the advantages of solar power system, over geothermal, biomass, and hydro, are a) availability- the sun which is one of the most important success factor in solar is always… abundantly available, than in theses other power system. b) clean and cheap-the externalities of all these mentioned power sources are not clean or cheap, their after effect costs much more than what is paid by the consumers c) environmental impact- only solar power system is environmental friendly in all the above mentioned sources of power, green gas, damage to agriculture land, ecological imbalances, from all of them can only be imagined. d)running and maintenance- cost of running and maintenance of solar power system is near zero, while all other for these power system, their running and maintenance cost increases as they get older. i wish you can get my exposition on power systems compared, it answers this question in detail, with dates, tables and graphs.
