Despite its recent tendency to lean to the left, the democratic party has in no way cornered the market on progressive thought in the political arena. Individuals such as Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, and "fighting Bob" la Follette, former governor and U.S. senator from Wisconsin were all Republicans. Tenets of the Progressive Republican platform include maintaining a strong national defence, growing government in part to assert "social hygiene", avoiding monopolies, fighting corruption in big business, and supporting relatively conservative social values, though typically "conservative" values are not always advanced (such as support for gay marriage legalization and amnesty for illegal immigrants which are currently supported by John McCain and Lyndsey Graham). Such senators as John McCain, oddly enough, have attempted to align themselves with their conservative rivals in the Tea Party Movement despite have fundamental philosophic differences concerning government. Further examples of progressive Republicans are Lindsey Graham and Scott Brown. Examples of other non-progressive, small-government, conservatives are Sarah Palin, Ron Paul, Glenn Beck, and Michelle Bachmann and Ronald Reagan.

Is evolution progressive?

It depends first on the context and definition of the terms "evolution" and "progress(ive)". The term evolution may be used in many different contexts; such as the evolution of species, or the evolution of technology. And the term progressive may have more than one meaning; such as implying some form of improvement over time, or merely implying non-stasis. Colloquially, the term evolution may refer to progress in terms of improvement. We might say, for example, that the rapid evolution of technology has led to great improvement in the quality of life. However, the same is not true when the terms are applied to science. Biological evolution, for example, describes how populations diverge, adapt, and differentiate over time resulting in new species. We might say that evolution progresses because it is not static, or because information is being added to the genomes of species over time; but not because there was any quantifiable improvement.

Why did roosevelt leave the republicans and set up the progressive party?

At the time, both the Republicans and Democrats believed that the Constitution as understood in the 1780s was the supreme law of the land and deserved to be treated as such. Roosevelt, on the other hand, believed that the Constitution should be interpreted as a flexible document that could be shaped to "adapt" to the "challenges of our day", thus concluding that neither party suited an agenda which, at the time, seemed radical to most Americans. This, consequently, resulted in his failed run for re-election, going up against former socialist member Woodrow Wilson. Roosevelt knew that without the concept of a flexible Constitution, most of his legislation would not have been able to become law, for example the establishment of the National Parks System and the FDA. Also, Rooselvelt supported Democratic Woodrow Wilson's national bank in the form of the Federal Reserve and also supported Wilson's first national income tax (which had been ruled unconstitutional in the latter part of the previous century). Under both the early 20th century Republicans and Democrats, race relations were actually improving when numerous less-than-comrehensive civil rights bills were brought before the Congress. However, on numerous occasions T.R. vetoed such legislation calling blacks, Native Americans, and Asians "inferior in the species". This same attitude was expressed by Woodrow Wilson when Wilson segregated the army during WWI and sent African American regiments on suicide missions.

What is a progress chaser?

Progress chaser A team needs someone who is responsible for ensuring that the team is keeping to the schedule that the team members have set themselves and ensuring that they will meet the external deadlines that have been given to them. Such a person should monitor progress, ensuring that everyone is doing what they are supposed to and that all the tasks that need to be completed by a particular date are on schedule before the deadline and have been completed once the deadline has passed. In a small team this may be undertaken by the team leader. In a large team the role of progress chaser may be supported by a timekeeper who monitors how much time is spent on each item in team meetings. In synchronous meetings it is easy to spend too much time on the first few items of a long agenda, leaving too little time to discuss the later items. A timed agenda allots time to each item. In asynchronous collaboration a similar function may be needed, although usually an end-time is set for each asynchronous discussion. In this case the timekeeper may need to allocate periods for discussion and ensure that these are coordinated with the milestones of the project..
